DOROTHY'S SKILLET LASAGNE | |
1 lb. ground beef 1 med. onion, chopped 1 or 2 cloves garlic, minced or garlic powder to taste 1 tsp. salt or to taste 1 lg. jar or can spaghetti sauce, approximately 32 oz. size 1 (12 to 16 oz.) carton cottage cheese, regular or low fat 8 oz. wide egg noodles 1 c. or more shredded Mozzarella cheese Ragu Chunky Garden Style with extra tomatoes, garlic and onions is good. In large skillet, partially cook meat to get some of the fat out. Drain grease by putting meat on paper towels or put meat in colander and quickly rinse with hot water. Return meat to skillet and add garlic and onions. Continue cooking until onion is well wilted. Add salt and stir in about 1/3 of the jar of sauce. Remove from heat. Spread cottage cheese in a layer over the meat mixture. Top with noodles. Pour rest of sauce over noodles. Rinse jar with few spoons of water and pour over mixture. Cover the pan and cook over low heat for about 30 to 45 minutes or until the noodles are tender. The time is approximate because different brands of noodles may cook at a different rate. After noodles are done, remove from heat, uncover and sprinkle with the Mozzarella cheese. Cover again, and let sit about 10 minutes before serving. Makes 4 to 6 servings. MICROWAVE DIRECTIONS: Start as above but after cooking meat with onions and garlic put meat mixture in a large microwave safe dish that has a cover. Continue with sauce, cheese, and noodles as above. Cover and microwave on a 70% setting for about 25 to 30 minutes or until noodles are done. Add Mozzarella as above. |
