SLOVAK PRUNE CENTER COOKIES 
3 1/2 lbs. flour
1 lb. shortening
1 1/2 lbs. sugar (3 1/2 c.)
1 dozen eggs
6 tsp. slightly heaped baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. vanilla
Filling (recipe follows)

Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs and mix well. Add flour, baking powder and salt. Roll out dough. Cut into 1 1/2" squares.

FILLING: Soak 2 pounds (or more) pitted prunes. Cut into small pieces. Mix in some chopped nuts and a little sugar. Put filling onto 1 square and top with another square. Seal edges well. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 15 minutes. Canned prune filling can be substituted for prunes.
