2 1/2 c. flour, sifted
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 c. butter, softened
1 1/4 c. sugar
3 egg yolks
1 tsp. vanilla

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease cookie sheet. Sift dry ingredients together and set aside. Beat together butter and sugar until fluffy, (3 minutes). Beat in egg yolks and vanilla. Gradually add flour mixture in 4 parts, beating well after each. Shape into balls using 1 tablespoon dough for each. Put 2 inches apart on prepared cookie sheet. Do not flatten. Bake 12 minutes or until lightly golden around edges. Makes 3 1/2 dozen.
