APPLE DUMPLINGS 
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. baking powder
Scant tbsp. shortening or lard
Buttermilk, add enough to make dough so it can be rolled
Apples, cut in slices
1 c. brown sugar
1 tbsp. flour
1 tbsp. butter
1 c. hot water

Combine first 6 ingredients. Roll dough 1" thick. Cover with sliced apples and roll up. Cut in 1" slices and place in greased pan. Combine brown sugar, 1 tablespoon flour, butter and hot water to make sauce. Pour over dumplings. Bake for 1/2 hour at 350 degrees. Serve with milk, sugar and nutmeg.
