ANNA'S APPLE PIE
1 tbsp. lemon juice (optional)
1 c. sugar
2 tbsp. all purpose flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
1/8 tsp. salt
6 to 8 tart apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced (approximately 6 c.)
Pastry for 2 (9-inch) deep-dish pie crusts
2 tbsp. butter
Sugar (sprinkle)

Preheat oven to 400°F.

If apples lose tartness, sprinkle with 1 tablespoon lemon juice. Combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Mix with apples.

Line a 9-inch pie pan with pastry. Fill with apple mixture and dot with butter. Put on top crust, crimp, and cut slits for steam to escape. Seal edges well. Sprinkle with sugar.

Bake for 50 minutes. Serve warm or cold.
