PUMPKIN - NUT BREAD 
1 c. brown sugar
1/3 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 c. pumpkin
1/4 c. milk
2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/2 c. broken California walnuts

Cream together brown sugar and shortening until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in pumpkin and milk. Sift together dry ingredients; stir into pumpkin mixture. Beat 1 minute with electric or rotary beater. Turn into greased 9 1/2 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pan. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) for 55 minutes or until done. Remove from pan; cool. Slice and serve with butter or whipped cream cheese.
