KRINGLE
4 c. flour
3 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
3/4 c. butter
3 egg yolks, beaten
1 c. milk, scalded and cooled to lukewarm
1/2 cake yeast
3 egg whites, stiffly beaten
3/4 c. brown sugar
1 c. raisins or dates, chopped
1 c. apples, chopped
1/2 c. nuts, chopped

Combine flour, sugar, salt and butter as for pie crust. Add combined egg yolks, milk and crumbled yeast. Work into soft dough. Cover and set in cool place overnight.

In morning divide dough into two or four parts. Roll each piece into strips about 9 inches wide. Spread each piece with egg whites, then sugar, then raisins or dates, then apples. Sprinkle with nuts.

Fold third of dough across, fold remainder of dough over this, making three layers. Place on well buttered baking sheet and shape into kringle. Set in warm place. Cover. Allow to raise until very light. Brush dough with melted butter, sprinkle with sugar. Bake in hot oven 375 to 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
