FROSTED GREENS OR 24 HOUR SALAD | |
1 lg. head of lettuce, shredded 1/4 c. chopped celery 1/4 c. chopped green onions 1/4 c. chopped green pepper 1 sm. can water chestnuts (sliced) 1 pkg. frozen peas (leave frozen) 2 c. mayonnaise 2 tbsp. sugar Shredded Cheddar cheese Layer all of these in a large salad bowl, starting with the lettuce. Add mayonnaise (do not use salad dressing.) Seal all greens by spreading mayonnaise over the top. Sprinkle with sugar. Cover and refrigerate over night (24 hours). Sprinkle with shredded Cheddar cheese for color just before service. Toss lightly at service time. Note: Chicken may be added before serving. |
