CHERRY COBBLER 
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. sweet milk
Shortening size of egg
1 1/4 tsp. baking powder
Flour enough to make medium stiff batter (about 1 cup)
Pinch of salt

Cream sugar and shortening. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt and add alternately with milk. Pour batter into 9 x 12 pan and pour over this 1 can pitted pie cherries, 1 cup sugar, lump of butter, and 2 cups boiling water. Bake 30 to 40 minutes in moderate oven.
