HONEY DATE BARS 
1 c. dates, chopped
3/4 c. orange juice
1/2 c. brown sugar (divided and packed)
1/2 tsp. cloves (powdered)
1 1/2 c. flour
2 c. Kellogg's Nuts & Honey cereal (crushed to about 1 c. or a little more)
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. butter
3 tbsp. corn syrup

In a 2 quart saucepan, combine dates, orange juice, 1/4 cup of the sugar and cloves. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the mixture boils. Reduce heat and cook over medium heat until thick. Set aside to cool. Combine flour, remaining 1/4 cup sugar, cereal and cinnamon. With pastry blender, cut butter into mixture until it forms coarse crumbs. Add corn syrup and stir until well blended. Pat 1/2 of cereal mixture into the bottom of a greased 9 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan. Spread date filling over crust. Pat remaining cereal mixture over date filling. Press slightly. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 minutes until browned slightly. Cool. Cut into 3 x 2 inch bars. Serve hot or cold with a dab of whipped cream. Serves 12.
