BASIC BAKED CUSTARD | |
4 eggs 1/3 c. sugar 2 1/2 c. hot milk 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg Chopped nuts or raisins (optional) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a 4 cup measure, stir eggs with a fork just to blend. Stir in sugar, hot milk, and vanilla. Place 6 (6 ounce) custard cups or 1 quart casserole in a large baking pan. Pour custard into cups or dish. Sprinkle with nutmeg. Pour hot water into the larger pan to 1 inch depth. Bake 30 minutes for cups or 45 minutes for casserole or until knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Remove cups or dish from water; cool on a wire rack, then chill. Serve with a sprinkle of nuts or raisins. Yield: 6 servings. |
