SWEDISH ALMOND COOKIES 
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 c. sifted powdered sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tbsp. water
1 tbsp. vanilla extract
1 1/4 c. finely chopped almonds
Additional sifted powdered sugar

Cream shortening and butter until light and fluffy. Add 1 cup powdered sugar and salt; mix well. Add flour, water, vanilla and almonds, stirring well. Shape dough into 1-inch balls; place on ungreased cookie sheets. Slightly flatten each cookie; bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Remove from cookie sheets and roll in additional powdered sugar. Yield: 3 dozen.
