KELLOGG'S RICE KRISPIES TREATS
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter
1 (10 oz.) pkg. (about 40) regular marshmallows or 3 cups miniature marshmallows
6 cups Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal

In a large saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and continue to stir until the marshmallows have completely melted. Remove from heat.

Stir in the Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal coating them well with the melted marshmallow mixture.

Using a buttered or silicone spatula, press the mixture evenly into a 13x9x2-inch pan which has been buttered or sprayed with non-stick spray or lined with wax paper.

Cut into squares when the mixture cools.

Makes 24 squares.

MICROWAVE DIRECTIONS:

Microwave butter with marshmallows on high setting for 2 minutes in a microwave safe mixing bowl. Stir together when melted. Microwave again on high for 1 additional minute. Stir in cereal, mixing until well coated. Press into pan as above.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.

Kellogg's Rice Krispies Treats

I think it should be added to the end of the recipe, that if you're in a warm climate or if you want to eat them sooner, you will have to put them in the fridge or freezer for a while so they set, and they won't fall apart. Mine are in the freezer for 10 minutes and I can't wait to eat 'em!

 Terri (Michigan) replies:
Thanks, Jennifer. I couldn't figure out why mine always came out hard!

I use the OLD recipe that called for 1/2 c. butter, if we are going to eat something bad, make it tasty (vanilla and whatever else you'd like/chips/choc. krispies, etc.).

I use butter for everything I cook, except rice crispy treats! I have found that they are very crunchy the next day if I use butter, so I started using margarine and they stay chewy. Also, to press them in the pan, just wet your hands. They won't stick to you then.

When my kids were little I improvised and used Reese's Puffs instead of Rice Krispies, but all the marshmallow cream went to the bottom (tasted great but was messy). So I also added some Cocoa Krispies to the Reese's Puffs, so the smaller Krispies kept the cream from falling down. Sorry, I just "eyeball" it so don't have an exact recipe, but use about 3x the Reeses for every Krispie - the Krispie is mostly for filler. This stuff is FABULOUS! All the kids rave about it, and now my son has requested it for his high school graduation... time flies!

This recipe really works! I loved it and the kids did, too. The salt, vanilla, and less krispies really gave it a great flavor. Thank you for all of your tips!

I like to use jet-puff mellows they have four flavors and are colorful but dont change the color of the treats. Kids love them

The first time I ever made these, I was much younger and without patience. I heated my marshmallows too fast and they were hard enough to break a tooth when they cooled. For those new to making these, don't rush it. I also agree with those who said use 5 instead of 6 cups of krispies. For my family's favorite variation, after mixing in the krispies, divide and press into 2 9x9 pans (or any 2 pans that are the same size and shape) after cooling, spread an even layer of Nutella over the top of one 9x9 krispie square and top with the other square for Nutella filled krispie treats.

I use half a cup of margarine and 2 small bags of marshmallows melt them. And then add to 3 cups of harvest crunch and 7 cups of Rice Krispies. That makes it better for you.

I use 3 cups of peanut butter cheerios, 3 cups of choc cheerios instead of rice cereal and add a generous spoonful of peanut butter to the melted marshmallow sauce. Yummy!!

I use fruity pebbles at Easter time and they were a hit. Thanks for the vanilla idea, never thought of it!

I didn't think Rice Krispie treats could get any better but adding a teaspoon of vanilla really does put them over the top!

I wanted to add another suggestion :) I make mine with 5 cups of rice Krispies, and since today is valentines day, i'm going to get my heart cookie cutter out, make them into hearts, and dip one half of the Krispie into some chocolate coating, and i'm going to add sprinkles. Ive done it before, and they come out awesome! I have 3 little ones, so before they get too hard I stick a Popsicle stick in it so they don't make too much of a mess :) hope someone else enjoys it as much as us!

 Heather (Pennsylvania) says:
The way I make mine is 1 stick of butter, a whole bag, 10.5 oz, mini marshmallows, and 6 cups of Rice Krispies. For those who say it falls apart, you must let them sit and form. Don't eat ASAP!
