“KELLOGG'S RICE KRISPIES TREATS” IS IN:

KELLOGG'S RICE KRISPIES TREATS
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter
1 (10 oz.) pkg. (about 40) regular marshmallows or 3 cups miniature marshmallows
6 cups Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal

In a large saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and continue to stir until the marshmallows have completely melted. Remove from heat.

Stir in the Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal coating them well with the melted marshmallow mixture.

Using a buttered or silicone spatula, press the mixture evenly into a 13x9x2-inch pan which has been buttered or sprayed with non-stick spray or lined with wax paper.

Cut into squares when the mixture cools.

Makes 24 squares.

MICROWAVE DIRECTIONS:

Microwave butter with marshmallows on high setting for 2 minutes in a microwave safe mixing bowl. Stir together when melted. Microwave again on high for 1 additional minute. Stir in cereal, mixing until well coated. Press into pan as above.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.

This is a great recipe! It tastes great! Another thing people can do to this is add Hershey's liquid chocolate on top of them!

When I was a kid in the UK, I'm sure the original recipe for Rice Krispie treats had Tate and Lyle golden syrup in them as well as sugar, marshmallows, rice krispies, and butter, can anyone else remember?

A piece of parchment paper works really well to press the mixture into the pan. The mixture was sticking like mad to spoon, spatula, but not to that paper. Must try the vanilla extract next time.

For variation I use Fruity Pebbles with fruit flavored marshmallows and Coco Krispies with chocolate flavored marshmallows. Super delicious!! I also combine Reese's Chocolate Peanut Butter cereal with Coco Puffs and add 2 big spoonfuls of peanut butter to either regular or chocolate marshmallows... Like eating a gourmet chocolate candy!! Chocolate heaven!!

6 cups works out for me, but I measure it in grams (about 159).

We used Jumbo marshmallows and they started to burn when we tried to melt them. We would suggest cutting the marshmallows up if you are using jumbos.

My mother used to make Rice Krispy Treats, but she would also make a batch with puffed rice cereal instead of Rice Krispies, which I love! Rachel, PA

I love this recipe because the Rice Krispies i made were delicious and you could melt some chocolate and then you could drizzle it all over the Rice Krispies Treat and it tastes delicious

For those who have tried adding salt, how much did you add?

Make a half batch at a time. All the cereal is coated evenly - never a dry area. I use treats to create animal and figures for special birthday cakes. Much easier to handle half batches and mold before they cool

I just made this! I wanted to add that you can also add pancake syrup and all spice/pumpkin pie spice, as well. Also thank you to whoever mentionded spraying the spatula with non-stick cooking spray, very useful, thank you!

Follow the original "6 cups of Krispies" recipe, but add 1 cup of Vanilla candy melt wafers with the marshmallows to melt. The treats look like the original also - same color. This recipe is one I use when I'm making 3D cake decorations like the Eiffel Tower that have to be stable.

I also use a large, non stick skillet instead of a saucepan because the cereal gets distributed better before the marshmallows set up. You just fold the melted mixture up over the cereal with a heat resistant spatula right in the pan.

I make these with fruity pebbles also... Kids love them!
