FOR THE NEWLY MARRIED WHO CAN'T MAKE BREAD | |
2 packets dry FAST yeast 1/2 c. warm water 3/4 c. sugar 1/3 c. Crisco 2 c. scalded milk 2 scant tbsp. salt 2 eggs 1 1/2 c. cool water 9-10 c. flour, depending on texture Dissolve yeast in warm water. Scald milk, add Crisco, sugar, and salt. Cool until lukewarm. When shortening and milk mixture are cool, add yeast, eggs, and water. Add flour by the cup and mix until dough isn't sticky. Knead until smooth, 10 minutes. Do not shirk on the kneading. Grease 3 pans. Let rise in warm place, then punch down and let rise again. Divide dough into 3 equal parts for loaves. Let rise about 1 hour. Put in cool oven. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Decrease heat to 300 degrees for 50-60 minutes. Makes 3 loaves. |
