1 c. dates, chopped fine
1 1/4 c. boiling water

Combine and boil together, mix and then cool.

3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 beaten eggs
1 1/2 c. + 2 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream shortening, sugar and eggs. Sift flour, soda, powder and salt together, then fold into cream mixture. Add 1 cup chocolate chips and mix. Put into 9x13 baking pan and top with 1/2 cup nuts, 1/2 cup sugar and 1 cup chocolate chips. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes.
