OLD FASHIONED STACK CAKE 
1 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2/3 c. molasses
1 c. buttermilk
2 eggs, beaten
7 c. flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. ginger
2 tsp. vanilla

Cream shortening with molasses, add beaten eggs; mix all dry ingredients and add milk, beat to a stiff dough, roll out to thickness of pie dough, cut out with a round cake pan or pie pan. Place rounds of dough on cookie sheet or pour into round pans. Bake 12-15 minutes at 400 degrees. Stack with apple butter or apple sauce (flavored to taste) let stand 4 hours before cutting. Makes 12-13 layers.
