FRUIT DROP COOKIES 
1 c. soft shortening
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 c. water
3 1/2 c. self-rising flour
1 1/2 c. pecans
2 c. candied cherries, cut in halves
2 c. dates

Mix well shortening, sugar, and eggs. Stir in water and flour. Stir in nuts, cherries, and dates. Chill at least 2 hours. Will keep in refrigerator several weeks. Heat oven to 400 degrees. Drop rounded teaspoons about 2 inches apart on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes until almost no imprint remains when touched lightly with finger.
