BAKED APPLES 
6 lg. baking apples
1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
1/2 c. water
1 tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
Vanilla ice cream
3/4 c. raisins or dates (optional)

Core apples. Place in baking dish. If you use raisins, fill the cored apples. In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, butter, cinnamon and nutmeg. Bring to a boil.

Pour hot mixture around apples. Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until apples are tender, basting occasionally with sugar mixture. Serve warm. Top the hole with a scoop of ice cream. Makes a great dessert.
