AMANDA'S CHERRY SQUARES 
1/2 lb. butter
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
2 c. flour
1 c. walnuts or pecans, chopped
1 can cherry pie filling
Confectioners' sugar (optional)

Cream butter and sugar together. Beat in vanilla and eggs, one at a time. Stir in flour. Stir in nuts. Spread 3/4 of the batter in a greased 9 x 13 inch baking pan. Cover with cherry pie filling.

Drop remaining batter by spoonfuls on top and spread it around as well as you can with a spatula or the back of a spoon. (Cherries will show through a bit.) Bake at 325 degrees for 45 minutes. Cool and cut into squares. Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar if you like. Makes 48 squares.
