RED VELVET CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 oz. red cake coloring
1 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. salt
2 1/2 c. plain flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. vinegar
1 c. buttermilk

Cream shortening. Add sugar and eggs one at a time beating after each addition. Add cake coloring and cocoa. Sift flour and salt together and add alternately with buttermilk. Fold in soda and vinegar.

Bake in 3 layers at 350°F for 30 minutes.
