ALL AMERICAN APPLE PIE
CRUST:

2 c. all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. salad oil
5 tbsp. cold water

FILLING:

4 lg. apples
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
3 tbsp. butter

Prepare crust by sifting together flour and salt. Pour salad oil and cold water into measuring cup do not stir. Add all at once to the flour mixture. Stir lightly with fork. Form into 2 balls, flatten dough slightly. Roll each ball between two 12 inch squares of waxed paper (dampen work surface slightly so that paper doesn't slip). When dough is rolled in a circle to the edges of paper it will be the right thickness for crust. Peel off top sheet of waxed paper and fit dough, paper side up, into pie plate. Remove second sheet of paper.

To prepare filling, peel apples and cut into thick slices. Combine sugars and spices. Place apples in pie crust. Sprinkle sugar mixture over top; dot with butter. Cover pie with second pie crust. Trim edges; cut slits in top for steam to escape.

Bake at 375 degrees for about 50 minutes or until apples are soft and crust browned. Makes 1 (9 inch) pie.

Tip: after going through all this trouble, you will wish you had made 2 pies. So, double your recipe, it's worth it!
