ITALIAN POUND CAKE | |
1 1/4 c. butter, softened or Promise butter 2 3/4 c. sugar 5 eggs 1 tbsp. pure vanilla 3 c. all-purpose flour 1 tbsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1/8 tsp. nutmeg 1 c. milk 1/2 c. slivered almonds Grease and flour pans, 7 1/2 x 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches. In large bowl cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla, beat at high speed 5 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Combine flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Beat at low speed. Pour into pans and sprinkle with almonds. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours until cake tests done with a toothpick. Cool and remove from pans. Our mother baked this cake for dad since he couldn't have icing on it. |
