SOUTHERN RAISED BISCUITS 
2 c. flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
6 tbsp. shortening
1/2 - 3/4 c. buttermilk (amount varies with type of flour used)

Pat or roll lightly 1/2 inch thick and cut with floured 2 inch biscuit cutter. Place biscuits in an ungreased 8 inch round cake pan, allowing the biscuits to touch. Set biscuits in a warm place and allow to rise for 40 minutes. Then bake in hot oven 425 degrees 25 to 30 minutes or until done. Brush with butter. Makes about 15 biscuits.
