GUM DROP CAKE 
2 pounds gum drops (no blacks) cut with scissors into quarters.

1 c. sugar
1 c. shortening

2 eggs, well beaten
1 1/2 c. sweetened, strained applesauce seasoned with
1 teaspoon cinnamon and
1 teaspoon nutmeg

4 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt

1 lb. white raisins
1 c. chopped walnuts and the gum drops

1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in 1 tbsp. hot water

Add to creamed mixture. Combine fruit and creamed mixtures. Bake in tube or loaf pans for about 2 hours at 350 degrees.
