1 c. hot water 1 c. chopped dates 1 tsp. baking soda 1 c. brown sugar 1 tbsp. shortening 1 egg 1 c. nuts 1 c. flour Pour 1 cup hot water over 1 cup chopped dates and 1 teaspoon baking soda, let stand until cool. Meanwhile mix 1 cup brown sugar and cream shortening. Add egg, beat well. Stir in flour and cooled date mixture. Add nuts, pour into loaf pan and bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. |
