GRANDMA'S DATE PUDDING CAKE 
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. butter
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 c. chopped dates
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder

TOPPING:

1 c. dates
3/4 c. water
1 c. sugar
1/3 c. nutmeats
Pinch of salt
1 tbsp. flour

Cream sugar and butter; add egg, salt and vanilla. Add the date mixture alternately with the flour. Bake about 30 minutes in 350 degree oven.

FOR TOPPING: Mix and cook until thick. Add dash of cinnamon, 1 tablespoon of butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Spread on warm cake.
