SOURDOUGH DOUGHNUTS 
1 egg
1/2 c. culture
1/4 c. buttermilk
1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. oil
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
2 1/4 c. flour
Oil for deep frying

Beat egg and sugar together. Add culture, buttermilk, oil, 2 cups flour and remaining ingredients. Mix well and knead on board until smooth, using remaining flour to dust on board. Roll to little less than 1/2 inch thickness; cut with floured 2 3/4 inch doughnut cutter.

Put on greased cookie sheet. Let rise about 30 minutes in warm place. Fry in 375 degrees of fat until golden. Drain on an absorbent paper and roll in sugar. Yield: 1 1/2 dozen.
