CRANBERRY FRUIT NUT BREAD 
2 c. all-purpose sifted flour
1 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt

Sift above together.

1/4 c. shortening

Cut into above.

3/4 c. orange juice
1 tbsp. orange rind, grated
1 egg, well beaten
1/2 c. chopped nuts
2 c. fresh cranberries, chopped

Combine orange juice and orange rind with egg.

Pour all at once into dry ingredients, mixing just enough to dampen. Carefully fold in chopped nuts and cranberries. Spoon into greased loaf pan (9 x 5 x 3 inches). Spread corners and sides slightly higher than center. Bake in moderate oven, 350 degrees for about 1 hour, until crust is golden brown and toothpick inserted comes out clean. Remove from pan. Cool. Store overnight for easily slicing.
