DEVIL STEAK 
About 2 lbs. round steak
1 or 2 sm. onions
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. dry mustard
2 tbsp. flour
1/2 tsp. chili powder
1/4 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. vinegar
2 c. water
2 tbsp. butter

Cut the steak into small pieces. Coat each piece with the flour. Melt the butter in a skillet and add the meat. Brown on all sides. Remove the meat; add the spices and the flour that was left when the meat was coated, and the water. Stir into a smooth paste.

Add the browned meat; cover and simmer for one hour. Also add the onions at this time. It is best to mix the chili powder with a little water before adding to the other spices. Carrots can be added during the last 1/2 hour of cooking time. This dish can be cooked in the oven or on top of the stove.
