SPICY OATMEAL CAKE 
2 c. boiling water
1 1/2 c. oats
3/4 c. butter
1 c. sugar
2 c. brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs
2 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. each soda, salt, and cinnamon

Pour boiling water over oats; cover. Let stand 20 minutes. Cream butter and sugars; beat in vanilla and eggs. Add oats mixture; mix well. Sift flour, soda, salt, and cinnamon into creamed mixture; mix well. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes. Leave cake in pan. See Broiled Frosting below.

BROILED FROSTING:

1/3 c. butter, melted
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/3 c. half & half
1 c. chopped nuts
1 1/3 c. coconut

Combine all ingredients. Spread no cake. Broil until bubbly and starting to brown.
