WATERMELON PICKLES 
1 gal. watermelon rind, cut into pieces

Boil until tender in boiling water and 1 tablespoon salt. Drain well.

SYRUP:

1 qt. cider vinegar
4 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. oil of cinnamon
10 c. sugar
1 tsp. black pepper
5 drops oil of cloves
Liquid and cherries of 1 pt. maraschino cherries

Bring to boil. Pour over rinds. Next morning drain rinds. Bring syrup to boil. Pour over rinds. Next morning bring syrup and rinds to boil. Seal in jars.
