GRANDMA'S STUFFED PEPPERS OR STUFFED CABBAGE | |
8 to 12 green peppers 1 lg. onion 1/2 c. ketchup 1 c. reg. rice OR: 1 head cabbage 2 lbs. hamburger 1 can tomato paste Salt and pepper to taste Dice onion and brown in saucepan with oil, butter. Mix hamburger, rice, ketchup, onion, salt and pepper. Stuff peppers. With remaining meat mixture, shape into oblong balls. Place in large soup pot. Mix can of tomato paste with 2 cans water and pour over peppers. Cover pot and simmer over low heat for one hour. CABBAGE: Cut cord. Boil until slightly firm. Drain. Break leaves and cut stems. Stuff leaves and roll making sure there is enough overlap to keep meat covered. Cook as above. |
