“CLASSIC CHEESEBURGER NACHOS” IS IN:

CLASSIC CHEESEBURGER NACHOS
Gooey nachos with all the flavors of the traditional All-American cheeseburger!

1 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
1 medium white or red onion, chopped, divided
1 lb. lean ground beef (or whichever kind you prefer)
1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
Kosher salt, to taste
freshly ground black pepper, to taste
1 (12 oz.) bag white corn tortilla chips
2 cups shredded Cheddar or deli-style American cheese
ketchup
mustard
1 cup diced tomatoes
1 cup shredded lettuce
1 cup dill pickle chips (can coarsely chop if desired)

Preheat oven to 350°F.

In a large skillet over medium heat, heat oil. Add 1/2 of the onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the ground beef, Worcestershire, salt and pepper and continue cooking until beef is well-browned and no pink remains. Drain any grease.

Spread half the tortilla chips in an even layer (close together with no spaces in between--if a few overlap a bit, it's okay) on a baking sheet. Top with half the ground beef and half the shredded cheese. Repeat one more layer, then bake until cheese is melty, 12 to 15 minutes.

Remove nachos from oven. Using a wide spatula, carefully transfer them to a serving platter, then gently form into a loose pile. Drizzle with ketchup and mustard. Sprinkle evenly with remaining 1/2 chopped onion, tomatoes, lettuce and pickles.

Serve immediately and enjoy!

NOTES:

• Can drizzle nachos with “Special Sauce” or Thousand Island dressing if desired. (Yum!)

• Add cooked, crumbled bacon when layering for "Bacon Cheeseburger Nachos".

• Some restaurants now serve their nachos and fries right in the pan that they baked in! I love that concept, as it emits a "home-cooked" feel, and "fresh-baked" comes to mind as well. If you have a fairly nice baking sheet, give it a try! (Just remember to place a large trivet or small towel beneath it when serving so as not to burn the surface you'll be setting it on.)

• For an all-out "Cheeseburger and Fries" experience, replace the tortilla chips with waffle fries! Bake frozen fries according to package directions, removing them from the oven a few minutes early. Remove the fries from the baking pan and allow it to cool down a bit. Once cooled, assemble your nachos on the pan and return to oven; heat through until cheese has melted.
