BASIC WHITE BREAD
5 1/2 - 6 c. flour
2 pkgs. active dry yeast
3 tbsp. sugar
2 tsp. salt
2 c. milk
1/2 c. butter

Combine 2 cups flour, dry yeast, sugar and salt. In saucepan heat milk and butter until milk is very warm, 120 to 130 degrees. Add to flour mixture and beat until smooth. Stir in remaining flour to form stiff dough. Knead on floured surface until smooth and elastic, 8 to 10 minutes. Place in greased bowl, turning to grease top. Cover and let rise in warm place until doubled in size, about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Punch down, divide in half and shape into a loaf. Place in greased loaf pan and raise until double in size. Bake at 375 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pans and cool.
