RED VELVET CAKE 
2 oz. red food coloring
3 tbsp. Nestles instant cocoa
1/2 c. Crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
1 tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda

Mix food coloring with cocoa -- let stand. Beat together (hard) Crisco and sugar, then add the eggs, 1 at a time, still beating. Add Crisco mixture to red mixture and add vanilla. Alternate addition of flour sifted with salt with 1 cup buttermilk. Beat hard.

Mix vinegar and baking soda and stir in. Bake in 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.

ICING:

1 stick butter
8 tbsp. Crisco
1 c. sugar
2/3 c. milk
3 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix until fluffy butter, add Crisco, 1 tablespoon at a time. Add sugar, beating constantly. Add milk, then flour, then vanilla, still beating.
