APPLE BREAD 
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
4 eggs, beaten
3 tbsp. buttermilk or sour milk
1 c. raw peeled apple, diced fine or grated
1/2 c. walnuts, chopped
1 c. raisins
4 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream shortening and sugar; add beaten eggs. Next add milk, apple, nuts, and raisins; set aside. In separate bowl, sift dry ingredients. Add to liquid mixture. Bake in two well greased loaf pans for about 45-60 minutes, or until knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool about 10 minutes, then invert pans to remove bread. This bread freezes well.
