BISCUITS 
3 c. plain flour
3 heaping tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. baking soda
1/4 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. buttermilk

Sift flour, baking powder, soda, salt in large bowl. In center of bowl, add buttermilk, shortening, and flour gradually. Work well. Put dough on flour board and knead for 10 minutes or until dough is smooth. If dough gets too stiff, add more buttermilk. If it gets too soft, add more flour. Roll dough 1/2 inch thick and cut biscuits. Bake on cookie sheet for 10 minutes or until done.
