MOM'S DATE PUDDING 
Dissolve 1 1/2 cups brown sugar in 1 1/2 cups of water in an 8 x 8 inch pan.

BATTER:

1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
3/4 c. nuts
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. dates, chopped

Beat egg and sugar together. Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with milk. Add vanilla, dates and nuts. Pour into sugar mixture (do not stir). Bake at 325 degrees for 40 minutes.
