ETHEL BRAZZEL'S BUTTERMILK CAKE 
2 1/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
1 c. buttermilk

Mix and bake in 2 layers at 350 degrees until done.

BUTTERMILK ICING:

2 c. sugar
1 c. buttermilk
1 stick butter

Cook sugar and milk until it forms a soft ball in cold water. Remove from heat, add butter and beat until creamy.
