OLD - FASHIONED EGG COLORING | |
1 qt. dark, outer onion skins 1 doz. eggs Water Note: Accumulate skins over a period of time. The darker the onion skins, the more attractive rust color of the eggs. Place half the onion skins at the bottom of a large pot. Cover with cold water. Place eggs on a bed of skins, then cover with remaining skins. Add enough water to cover and simmer until mixture comes to a boil. Then boil 7 minutes longer. Remove eggs as soon as they have boiled completely; drain. Cool, then refrigerate. Designs may be made on the eggs with a waxy crayon previous to putting them in the pot. This allows for creativity and originality. |
