BILL'S HORS D'OEUVRES
As weird as this sounds, these are delicious and addictive! In the early 1980's I visited Ingomar, Montana, and ate at the restaurant / bar / post office / gas station / grocery store called the Jersey Lily (not much in Ingomar!) Had a great steak meal. The proprietor, who I only remember as "Bill", insisted that I try his hors d'oeuvres. Reluctantly, I tried it. Wow! Nearly a quarter century later, it is a favorite of my teenage kids. I don't know if Bill is still around, but I want to make sure his hors d'oeuvres recipe has been immortalized!

1 pkg. saltine crackers
2 navel oranges
1 yellow onion
1/2 lb. sharp cheddar cheese

Slice the cheese into 1/8-inch thick slices sized to fit on the crackers. Peel and section the oranges. Cut the onion into 1-inch cubes, then separate the layers.

ASSEMBLY:

Place a slice of cheese on a saltine cracker. Place a half of an orange section and a piece of onion on top of that.

Best eaten in one big bite!
