DATE FILLED DROP COOKIES 
2 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening
3 eggs
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda in a little hot water
3 c. flour

Mix together the ingredients for the cookies. Roll the cookie dough into balls and then hollow out the center of the ball with your finger or thumb. Place a small amount of filling in the hole. With a small amount of cookie dough, make a flat cover to place over the filling in the cookie. The cover will seal around the hollowed out area of the cookie to hold the date filling in. Bake 12 to 15 minutes at 350 degrees.

FILLING:

1 c. chopped dates
1 c. sugar
1 c. water

Boil until thick.
