PORK-APPLESAUCE-KRAUT BAKE | |
6 pork chops, cut 1/2 inch thick 1 tbsp. shortening Salt and pepper 1 (16 oz.) can chopped sauerkraut 1 (8 1/2 oz.) can applesauce 1/4 c. chopped onion 2 tbsp. packed brown sugar 1/4 tsp. caraway seed In skillet on thermostatically controlled gas burner set at 325 degrees, brown chops in shortening. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Remove chops, drain off excess fat. Combine sauerkraut, applesauce, onion, brown sugar and caraway seed; spread over bottom of skillet and arrange chops on top. Reduce temperature to 212 to 225 degrees and simmer 45 minutes. Makes 6 servings. |
