WALNUT TORTE 
1 1/2 c. chopped walnuts (pecans)
1 1/2 c. vanilla wafer crumbs (graham cracker crumbs)
1 c. packed brown sugar
1 c. butter, melted
1 pkg. devils food cake mix with pudding in the mix
1 (12 oz.) container Cool Whip or real whipped cream

Combine first 4 ingredients. Press into bottom of 4 (9 inch) round or square cake pans that have been sprayed with Pam cooking spray (about 3/4 cup of mixture in each pan).

Prepare cake according to package directions. Pour 1/4 of batter in each pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or until done. Cool in pan for 10-20 minutes. Cool cake layers completely. Turn 1 layer top side down (nut mixture on top) on plate. Cover with whipped cream. Repeat with remaining layers, ending with whipped cream. Garnish if desired (walnut or pecan halves dipped in chocolate, chocolate curls, chopped nuts).

The recipe calls for walnuts and vanilla wafer crumbs but I prefer pecans and graham cracker crumbs, experiment for yourself.
