LAYERED VEGETABLE SALAD 
1/2 med. head lettuce
1 green pepper, diced
2 ribs celery, diced
1/4 lb. mushrooms, sliced
1 med. onion, sliced
1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen peas, partially defrosted
4 strips bacon, crisp-cooked, broken into pieces
1 c. mayonnaise
1 tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. basil, crumbled
6 oz. Cheddar cheese, shredded

Break up lettuce and arrange in a large salad bowl (a clear one is nice). Layer the following on top of the lettuce: diced green peppers, celery, wash and sliced mushrooms, sliced, onions, next arrange green peas.

Mix together the mayonnaise, sugar, salt, garlic powder and basil. Spread mayonnaise mixture evenly over peas. Sprinkle with Cheddar cheese, then with bacon.

Cover and refrigerate 4 hours or as long as 24 hours. Serve with spoon so everyone gets layers of salad. Makes 6 or more servings.
