1/2 c. lukewarm water 1/2 c. sugar 1 pkg. active dry yeast 2 lg. eggs 1 c. shortening, melted 1 tbsp. salt 7-8 c. flour 3 c. milk, scalded & cooled lukewarm Combine water, sugar and yeast. Add eggs, salt and milk. Add half of the flour and mix to smooth batter. Then add melted shortening and mix until smooth. Add remaining flour to make soft dough. Set in warm place to raise until double in bulk. Form into small balls, size of medium walnuts, place on baking sheets 3" apart. Let raise until double in size, then press down in center and work to outer edge of ball, leaving a ridge around outer edge. Brush with whole egg, beaten and fill center with Prune Poppy seed filling Cherry Raspberry Blueberry fillings or whatever you like. bake in hot 475 degree oven until golden brown. |
