2 1/2 c. sifted flour 1 tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. salt 1 c. lard 1 egg, separated Milk 2/3 c. crushed corn flakes 5 c. sliced apples 1 1/2 c. sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon Sift flour, sugar and salt. Cut lard in with pastry blender. Put egg yolk in cup and add milk to make 2/3 cup. Add to lard mixture. Mix just enough to roll dough. Roll out one half to 15 x 11. Transfer to baking sheet. Cover with corn flakes, then apples. Mix sugar and cinnamon and spread on apples. Cover with balance of dough, pinching edges together. Beat egg white until stiff and spread on top of crust. Bake at 400 degrees for 40 minutes. While hot, drizzle glaze over top. (Mix 1 cup powdered sugar with 2 tablespoons lemon juice for the glaze.) |
