CHERRY DATE BREAD 
1 c. pitted dates
1 1/4 c. boiling water
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. butter
1 egg
2 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 c. sugar
1 c. whole maraschino cherries
1 c. whole walnuts

Mix together dates, water, soda and butter and cool. Add egg, flour, vanilla, salt, cinnamon and sugar; mix well and add cherries and nuts. Grease and flour 6 soup cans. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees.
