STEAK-IN-A-BAG | |
1 (2 to 3 lb.) top sirloin steak, cut 2 1/2 inches thick 1 c. egg bread crumbs 1 c. grated Cheddar cheese 4 tbsp. softened butter 4 tbsp. vegetable oil 1 tsp. crushed garlic 2 tsp. seasoned salt 2 1/2 tsp. seasoned pepper Remove excess fat from steak. Mix butter, oil, garlic, seasoned salt and seasoned pepper until blended. Spread on all sides of steak. Mix bread crumbs and cheese. Press into butter mixture on steak, coating well. Place steak in a brown paper grocery bag. Fold end over and secure with paper clips. May be refrigerated several homes, if desired. Before baking, bring to room temperature. Place bag on rimmed baking sheet and bake 30 minutes at 375 degrees. For medium rare, increase temperature to 425 degrees and bake 15 minutes longer for a total of 45 minutes. For medium-well, reduce heat from 425 to 375 degrees and bake 5 minutes longer before removing from oven, for a total of 50 minutes. Remove steak from bag. Let stand 5 minutes before carving into thin slices. Serves 4 to 6. Can bake 2 steaks in the same bag, doubling recipe. make certain bag does not touch oven walls! NOTE: To make egg bread crumbs, take one or two egg bread rolls, including crusts, and place in blender or food processor. Process until crumbly. Store extra crumbs in plastic bags in freezer. |
